How a collection has been stored, handled, and kept over the years comes through when you pull a record from its sleeve, and we notice.

What Makes Vinyl Records More Valuable?

Not all records are worth the same — and knowing what drives value can help you understand what to expect when you sell. Here's what we look at:

Original pressings are almost always worth more than reissues. A first pressing of a classic jazz or soul album can be worth ten times a later reissue of the same record.

Condition is everything. Records graded VG+ (Very Good Plus) or better fetch significantly higher prices. Scratches, warps, writing on labels, and split seams all reduce value — but don't assume a worn-looking sleeve means a bad record. The vinyl itself matters most.

Genre matters. Jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, Latin, reggae, and electronic records have strong collector demand right now. Easy listening, big band, and showtunes — less so.

Rarity and regional pressings. Records pressed in small quantities, released only in certain markets, or on obscure labels often command premium prices even if you've never heard of the artist.

Complete packages. Original inner sleeves, inserts, lyric sheets, and posters all add value. A record with all its original components is worth more than the disc alone.

Not sure what you have? That's exactly what we're here for. Send us a description and we'll give you an honest answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prices depend on condition, pressing, rarity, and current demand. Condition is the single biggest factor — records that have been stored flat in sleeves in a climate-controlled environment will always fetch more. Original pressings, sealed copies, and sought-after genres command the best prices. We'll give you a straight, honest offer.
There's no minimum. We'll consider collections of any size. For collections of 250 records or more anywhere in South Florida — Miami, Broward, or Palm Beach — we'll come to you. For smaller collections, a drop-off at our North Miami store works best.
Yes — estate and inherited collections are welcome. We handle these situations with care and discretion. If logistics are difficult, we can work around them. Just reach out and we'll figure out the best approach together.
We primarily buy vinyl LPs and 45s. For CDs, we're selective — we're looking for large, well-kept collections, particularly metal and rap. If you've got a serious CD collection in good condition, reach out and we'll take a look.
We cover Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County at no charge. For collections of 1,000 or more, we'll travel anywhere in Florida. If you're not sure whether we'd make the trip, just call — the answer is almost certainly yes.
Original pressings of jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, Latin, and classic rock tend to command the highest prices. Labels like Blue Note, Prestige, Atlantic, Stax, and early island pressings are particularly sought after. Condition is always the biggest factor — a VG+ original pressing is worth far more than an excellent reissue.
Yes — especially right now. Vinyl has been in a sustained resurgence since the mid-2010s and demand from collectors, DJs, and casual listeners remains strong. Even common records in good condition have value. If you have a collection sitting in storage or taking up space, it's almost certainly worth something. The only way to know for sure is to get it in front of someone who knows the market.
Yes. We buy 45 RPM singles, 12-inch dance and hip-hop singles, and 7-inch picture sleeves. Soul, funk, and Latin 45s in particular can be quite valuable. Include them when you reach out — we'll go through everything.
Discogs.com is the best free resource — search your record and filter by "sold" listings to see real sale prices, not just asking prices. Condition grades heavily affect value. You can also contact us directly — we're happy to give you a straight honest read on what you have with no obligation.

All Vinyl Radio — Why We Only Play Records

Every Saturday from 3 to 5 pm, Found Sound Records in North Miami becomes a radio station. We stream live at abovethecloudsradio.com. No playlists, no algorithms, no digital files. Just records.

That's Above the Clouds Radio — a vinyl-only, free form radio show running for 8 years and 469 episodes. Every single one is archived and available to stream.

What "All Vinyl" Actually Means

All vinyl radio means every track comes from a physical record. No streaming, no MP3s, no Serato. The music lives in the grooves and comes through a needle. You hear the warmth, the crackle, the slight variations in tempo that digital audio smooths out. It sounds different because it is different.

Free form means there's no format. No genre rules, no era rules. A set might move from 70s Miami soul to obscure jazz to a Latin 45 to a hip-hop instrumental from 1994 to something nobody in the room has ever heard.

How It Started

Above the Clouds Radio launched in 2017 — before Found Sound Records even existed — with DJ KEMS (@dj_kems) and close friend Lumin (@oddinhuman). The two of them built the show from the ground up. Lumin was there through the first 100 episodes before stepping away. KEMS held it down from there.

When rap79 opened Found Sound Records in December 2019, the show found its home in the shop — and the two have been inseparable since.

The Records, the People

The records on the show come from two distinct places. KEMS plays from his personal collection — over 6,000 records accumulated over nearly 30 years, with one of the most genuinely diverse musical tastes you'll encounter anywhere. His sets go places most DJs wouldn't think to go. He relocated at the start of 2026 but his sessions are still part of the broadcast every Saturday, streamed in the shop.

rap79's sets draw from a mix of his own personal collection and the store's new arrivals. What comes through the shop often finds its way into his sets — and sometimes the records he plays on air end up for sale, because he's both the DJ and the owner of the store.

The people who play on Above the Clouds Radio aren't random — they're friends, some for years, some who became friends through the show itself. It's a tight circle by design, and the music reflects it.

Eight Years In

469 episodes across 8 years. That's a real body of work — all archived, all streamable at abovethecloudsradio.com. It's a document of the music, the friendships, and the store.

Where to Listen

Live every Saturday 3–5 pm at abovethecloudsradio.com. All 469 episodes are in the archive. KEMS' full archive is also on Mixcloud.

How to Sell Your Record Collection in South Florida

So you've got a record collection and you're thinking about selling. Maybe you're downsizing, settling an estate, clearing out a storage unit, or just ready to pass your records on to someone who'll actually play them. Whatever the reason, selling your vinyl records in South Florida is easier than you think — if you know where to start.

What's Your Collection Actually Worth?

This is the first question everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends. Condition is the single biggest factor. A record that's been stored in sleeves, kept away from heat and humidity (tough in Miami, we know), and never left on a turntable is worth significantly more than one that's been stacked in a garage on Biscayne Boulevard for ten years.

Record collection at a home in South Florida ready to be sold — Found Sound Records buys vinyl in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County

A typical South Florida collection pickup — records stored at home, ready for evaluation.

Beyond condition, it comes down to what you have. Original pressings of sought-after jazz, soul, funk, Latin, and classic rock albums can be worth serious money. Common budget reissues and easy listening albums are worth much less. The sweet spot is usually somewhere in between — a collection of average records in good condition is still worth real cash.

Things that increase value: original pressings, sealed records, rare or regional releases, strong genres (jazz, soul, hip-hop, Latin, reggae), records in VG+ or better condition.

Things that decrease value: heavy scratches, warped records, water damage, missing sleeves, common pressings of overproduced albums.

Why Selling to a Local Record Store Makes Sense

You could list everything on Discogs or eBay individually — and if you have the time and knowledge, that'll usually get you the most money. But most people don't have weeks to photograph, list, package, and ship hundreds of records. Selling to a local buyer like us gets you cash the same day, with zero hassle.

Vinyl records being picked up in South Florida by Found Sound Records — we come to you anywhere in Miami, Broward, and Palm Beach

We come to you — no hauling required. Found Sound Records picks up collections throughout South Florida.

The other option is an estate sale or Craigslist, but you'll almost always end up selling good records cheap to dealers who'll flip them for more. If you're going to sell at dealer prices, sell to the dealer directly and cut out the middleman.

How We Buy Records at Found Sound Records

We buy vinyl collections throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County — and for collections of 1,000 records or more, we'll travel anywhere in Florida. Here's how the process works:

  • Reach out first. Fill out our form or call us at (786) 360-4934. Tell us roughly how many records you have and what genres. We'll respond within 24 hours.
  • We come to you. For collections of 250 records or more, we'll come to your home, storage unit, or wherever the records are. No hauling required on your end.
  • We evaluate on the spot. Most collections take 30 minutes or less. We go through everything, make you a cash offer, and you decide on the spot — no pressure.
  • You get paid immediately. If you accept, you get paid that day. Simple.

What We Buy

We're interested in vinyl across all genres — rock, jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, Latin, reggae, electronic, blues, classical, international, and more. LPs, 45s, 12-inch singles, and box sets. We also buy select CDs. We don't buy cassettes, 8-tracks, or severely damaged records.

Selling Records in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach

We're based in North Miami but we cover the whole tri-county area regularly. Whether you're in Coral Gables, Aventura, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, or West Palm Beach — we can come to you. For large collections, no distance in Florida is too far.

If you've been holding onto a collection and wondering what to do with it, the easiest first step is to get a free estimate from us. No commitment, no obligation — just an honest conversation about what you have and what it's worth.
